Trying to identify the biggest mistake in American History is a tough game. Identifying our great mistakes is tough because ideology, personal prejudice, politics, and sentiment cloud our judgement.
However, my choice for the biggest mistake in America history is the Space Shuttle. Yes, the Space Shuttle, the gleaming white albatross that Peter Thiel and other intellectual technophobes mistakenly worship as a symbol of progress and power.
I think the Space Shuttle was a mistake because it set America’s space program and space exploration back 25 or 30 years. …
Conagra Brands Inc. (NYSE: CAG) is a value investment driven by comfort food.
To explain, Conagra Brands (CAG) owns several popular consumer food brands. Those brands include; Pam, Udi’s Gluten Free, Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn, Birdseye, Vlasic Pickles, Reddi Whip, Marie Callender’s, Hunt’s, Healthy Choice, Duncan Hines, and Slim Jim. Those brands sell because of consumer recognition.
An obvious hope of Conagra investors is that consumers rattled by COVID-19 will reach for familiar brands. For instance, people stuck at home will eat familiar foods including Vlasic Pickles and Hunt’s tomatoes.
Conagra Brands’ (CAG) revenues support that thesis. Stockrow estimates Conagra’s revenues…
A Basic Income could save many women, children, and others from domestic violence.
To be honest, basic income will not prevent domestic violence. The causes of domestic violence are too complex for one policy to solve.
On the other hand, a basic income could enable many people to escape from domestic violence. To explain one reason people stay in abusive relationships; or homes, is poverty.
Many women stay with violent men because they lack the money to leave. Our sick society gives these women the horrible choice of “stay with the violent guy or sleep in the streets.”
The Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE: BE) hopes to cash in on the Climate Crisis with fuel cells.
A fuel cell is a device that generates electricity through a chemical reaction. Thus, a fuel cell can generate electricity while burning no fossil fuels. In fact, the only pollution a hydrogen fuel cell emits is water.
The US Department of Energy claims fuel cells can operate with efficiencies of up to 60%. A fuel cell can produce electricity and heat as long as they supply it with fuel.
Bloom Energy (BE) is a California company that builds hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers…
In American politics, animals represent politics. For instance, the donkey or Jackass accurately represents the Democratic Party.
However, elephant wrongly represents the Republican Party. Most people consider elephants loyal, noble, brave, and cool. Obviously, not even US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) will associate those words with the Republican Party.
Hence, Republicans need a new more appropriate animal to represent their party. To further mock the Grand Old Party (GOP), we at Lists of Doom will pick another animal to represent it.
Our choices for new animals to represent the Republican Party include:
The COVID-19 pandemic could last longer and cost many more lives because of vaccine misinformation.
Frighteningly, many experts think the United States will never reach herd immunity. To explain, herd immunity occurs when the coronavirus cannot spread because a high percentage of the population is immune to it. The Mayo Clinic estimates that 70% of the US population will have to be immune for America to achieve herd immunity.
Many experts think that the United States will not achieve herd immunity because large numbers of people will not get vaccinated, The Guardian reports. …
Many investors are investigating Upland Software Inc. (NASDAQ: UPLD) because it is a cheap cloud-enterprise stock with a growing price.
Over the past year, Upland’s share price rose from $30.92 on 11 May 2020 to $44.20 on 7 May 2021 and fell to $41.89 on 11 May 2021. Thus, Upland (UPLD) is growing, but it is not bubbling.
So what is Upland Software (UPLD) and does it make money? I think Upland Software is an attempt to offer one-stop shopping for organizations’ cloud enterprise software needs.
Simply put, Upland offers a suite of applications that meet corporate needs. …
We recently sat down for a chat with our good friend severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus popularly known as COVID-19.
Since it’s been awhile since we interviewed the coronavirus we figured it would have much to say. We were right.
Lists of Doom: “So what have you been up to lately?
Coronavirus: “I’ve been spending a lot of time over in India. I’ve been unleashing all sorts of new variants there and I think I’ve destroyed Prime Minister Modi’s political career. I’ve also killed a lot of people and brought the country to its knees.”
Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) is in an enviable position these days. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has become the hottest product since the iPhone.
For example, the European Union (EU) signed a contract for 1.8 billion Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses, Reuters reports. The contract includes over 900 million initial doses and another 900 million booster shots, European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen tweeted.
Moreover, the EU will make the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine the focus of its vaccination efforts. The New York Times reports the EU is turning to the BioNTech shot because of problems with the AstraZeneca (NASDAQ: AZN) vaccine
Americans do not have to fly overseas to see ruins. Interestingly, the United States contains many ruins.
Some of America’s ruins are as spectacular as anything in Europe or India. Other American ruins have an eerie post-apocalyptic look. Thus, if you want to see ruins, you can find some of the most speculator abandoned buildings in the United States.
Some of these ruins are relics of past civilizations. Others are the remains of past eras of our own civilization. However, most of the places are spectacular and haunting.
