The best and the worst part of freelancing is the clients. Great clients make freelancing fun and profitable.

Horrible clients; on the other hand, make freelancing a nightmare. The worst clients bring all the problems and annoyances of a job to the freelance world with none of the benefits.

Some of the horrible freelance clients out there include:

  1. The Phone Guy. This person insists on getting your phone number so he can call you every five minutes and say nothing. The Phone Guy keeps interrupting you and wonders why you cannot complete the work.
  2. The Micro Manager. This character insists on checking in every five minutes and may even want to watch you via video. Hence, he’s just like your boss at the office without the regular paycheck. Like Mr. Phone Guy, the Micro Manager makes it impossible for you to complete the work. Then blames you.
  3. Mr. Slow Pay. Mr. Slow Pay, pays you when he feels like it. Thus you do not know when you will get paid. The more he owes you the longer it takes Mr. Slow Pay to send you the money.
  4. The No Information Man. This guy tells you nothing about the assignment, makes no effort to contact you, and blames you when the assignment is not completed in 24 hours.
  5. The Grammar Geek. This person cannot write a sentence but she sends the assignment back because of one grammatical error, real or imagined. She keeps sending it back even if there are no errors to prove her proficiency as an editor.
  6. The Editor. This person is too lazy or incompetent to write the assignment himself. However, he keeps sending it back for a rewrite for no discernible reason. Moreover, the editor never tells you what he wants just rejects the assignment over and over again.
  7. Mr. Confusion. This guy does not know what he wants. Instead, he has you write something then rejects it. Generally, Mr. Confusion has you write the assignment over several times because he does not know what he is doing.

Freelancers, beware these and many other horrible clients are looking for you. A few days working with these characters and a full-time job will sound relaxing.
