I agree Spain is far better off with Franco gone. However, his role in World War II like Stalin’s is fascinating and morally troubling. Democracy’s victory was partially the result of three of history’s worst dictators. Or three if you add Hitler whose incompetence was probably the allies greatest weapon.

It’s not just rightists who look to the romantic past. Take a look at all the leftists who pine who for the glories of the Soviet Union. I think it’s a human impulse.
