I’m sure there is a correlation. My guess is that a lot of Democrat, and Republican voters don’t care about religion at all. The difference is that there is a minority in the GOP that cares passionately about its faith. I don’t buy the idea that the Republicans are less sophisticated or less intelligent than Democrats. Republican strategy and tactics are often more sophisticated and smarter than Democratic tactics. In addition, a lot of Republican leaders seem to view people of faith as useful idiots who can help them achieve their goals. Meanwhile a lot of people of faith view Trump as their useful idiot who can help them achieve a few of their goals.
