My fear is “basic standard of living” like Communism and socialism will turn into a jobs program for bureaucrats. For instance, they would hire a dozen experts to conduct research to determine what kind of diapers the poor need. Then another team of experts to design the diapers. Finally, they’ll put out a big money contract to a company to make the special diapers for the poor. Meanwhile, poor women will be ripping up rags to make diapers or buying Pampers on the black market because there are no diapers in the stores.
