Tillerson is no neophyte. He knows exactly what’s going on. The reason he’s in government is simple. When Rex retired he wanted to sell all his Exxon-Mobile stock. Pretty smart move since it is losing value, but he couldn’t because that would look bad for the company. When he signed on as Secretary of State Tillerson sold all his stock to avoid “conflict of interest.” Rex gets a nice tax break, a federal paycheck, and a much easier job where he gets to travel a lot and only has to report into the office when he feels like it. He also gets plenty of time off for golf, and a chance to buy Google or Facebook stock and leave his kids a billion dollar fortune. So Rex is not the least bit stupid.
