UnitedHealthGroup (UNH) is all over the news because of a tragedy. The brazen murder of its CEO, Brian Thompson, in Midtown Manhattan.

Ironically, Thompson was on his way to United Health’s investor conference at the time of his murder. Somebody shot Thompson in the back in what police call a targeted killing. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters her detectives think the murder was a “targeted attack.” Tisch did not mention any motives for the murder.

Health Insurance is a Lucrative Business

The UnitedHealthCare (UNH) financial numbers show health insurance is a lucrative business.

For example, United Health’s quarterly revenues grew by 9.16% from $92.36 billion in September 2023 to $100.82 billion in September 2024. Similarly, the quarterly net income grew by 3.66% from $5.84 billion in September 2023 to $6.06 billion in September 2024.

UnitedHealthGroup has far more cash. Its quarterly cash from operations grew by 102.04% to $13.95 billion in September 2024. Similarly, the quarterly free cash flow grew by…
